What We Do

Many of you have expressed interest in meeting others from your study. Here is an opportunity to do so. It is also an opportunity to participate in tightly organized support and integration online meetings or “calls.”

The calls are organized and facilitated by a few of your peers from the Multidisciplinary Association for Psychedelic Studies (MAPS)-sponsored Phase 2 cohort who are experienced in running in-person and online support groups. These peers have diligently integrated and applied insights and have negotiated the ups and downs of life after the study for some time. We are an independent group of former clinical trial participants, and we are not formally affiliated with MAPS.

The shared experience of having participated in one of the MAPS-sponsored MDMA-assisted psychotherapy studies is a rare and valuable bond. We’ve found that it sets the stage for some intense sharing of stories and insights, and, thus far, has fostered several deep, supportive friendships. What we have done here is we’ve created a safe and anonymous venue for participants to share what has and has not worked for them in the months and years following the study. Please note: There are no credentialed counselors, psychologists or M.D.’s dispensing diagnostics or professional advise on these calls. We are a peer-to-peer support network with strict ground rules.

There are plans to form sub-groups such as: an all-women’s group, combat veterans, victims of sexual abuse, first-responders, life-threatening illness, autistic adults and other specific groups of MAPS study participants. For now, we are one single group consisting of clinical trial participants who have completed their study participation. For those who are entertaining a call-to-service, we will be fielding opportunities to get out and speak, advocate and inform. As well, we hope to invite the Phase 3 and possibly the Expanded Access patients, to our dialogue.

If you are interested in participating or finding out more information, please contact John Saul or Rachel Hope.

October 2017

After the study, I decided to act on several major life and career changes. I saw everything from a new perspective, of course, and so these changes were overwhelmingly difficult to carry out. By chance, I was lucky enough to connect with two MAPS peers. We met by phone and online on a weekly basis and helped one another through tough times. Over the last two years, the value of these meetings has become obvious.”
